Description
Hand Signed Mixed Media. Lithograph with Metallic Printing. Framed in a gold wood frame and double MATTED. Riky Rothenberg was born in Kfar Saba, Israel, and studied painting at the Renanim School of Art in Tel Aviv. Most of Rothenberg’s scenery is located outdoors, but the landscape is an imaginary one. The extensive interplay between light and space confers upon the image of warm and radiant quality. This combination is so smooth and the flow so subtle that the two components seem to shift continuously into one another.
In order to render public the images of an inner journey, the artist must rely upon symbols. These symbols are multiple and diverse; religious and mystical, personal and ethnic, ancient and modern, historical and eternal. For example, the strip of white cloth (found on most of Rothenberg’s works) is in itself a powerful Jewish icon. It is obviously related – especially when decorated with black transversal lines at its fringed end to the talit (prayer shawl). At the literal level, it betokens the act of praying. At the allegorical level, it denotes the mandatory practices (mitzvot) the Jew must observe in order to define himself. The ascendant movement is a generic soft symbol in the artist’s work. The ‘human figures’ and ‘flying objects’ (especially Music/Danceal instruments) are but the material indicators of this exceptional state of weightlessness and levitation. During her mystical journey, the artist handles an impressive number of concepts through the agency of a handful of visual motifs. It is apparent that various stylistic elements such as movement, line, shape, color and composition have complimentary effects, permitting the apprehension of a totally supernatural scene at a certain level of reality. Riki Rothenberg works are part of many private and public collections around the world; Israel Japan, Europe, South America and the U.S.A. Her art works (oils and mix media on canvas or wood) were exhibited in private and joint exhibitions, both in Israel and around the world. Riki's works have been internationally printed in books and art magazines.
"Riki Rothenberg's work is expression of the unique spirituality of her world and achievement, awe and joy. The body of work is not the depiction of a mystical quest; it is the mystical quest. In a flamboyant, polychromatic style, marshalling a multi-evocative set of symbols, Rothenberg's paintings convey a durable message of love for God and faith in human destiny."
